Wakiso District leaders, led by Hon. Betty Ethel Naluyima, launched the Naffe Tusome campaign to help children, especially girls, return to school after COVID-19 closures. Schools had been closed for nearly two years, and many children were unable to go back due to poverty, lack of school materials, early pregnancies, or involvement in work. Hon. Naluyima encouraged parents and guardians to take responsibility and invest in their children’s education, emphasizing that success comes after proper care and support at home.
The campaign brings together community leaders, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to support education and improve the future of children in Wakiso. It also aims to address the high number of teenage pregnancies, which affected over 10,000 girls during the lockdown. Through community meetings, outreach programs, and awareness campaigns, leaders hope to ensure that every child returns to school safely, continues learning, and gets a real chance to build a better future.
Wakiso District leaders are also working to provide practical support, such as school uniforms, learning materials, and mentorship programs, to make it easier for children to resume their studies.
